Toombow Kids : Hello! Can you introduce yourself?
Baba Wild : Hello, my name is Baba Wild, I am a 25 year old artist, actor and author.
Toombow Kids: Why did you want to become an actor?
Baba Wild: Because it’s something I’ve wanted to do since an early age. I always wanted to play other characters. It has always been my passion, it’s what really drives me!
Toombow Kids: What are some of the obstacles you have had to face?
Baba Wild: When I told my family that I wanted to be an actor, I didn’t get much support. My friends laughed at me and said I would never succeed, some said my mother gave me unrealistic expectations, since I thought I could make it as an actor. When I was 18, my best friend even told me that I would end up homeless. I also met some phony people who talked a lot and enticed me with false promises.
Toombow Kids: Why did you decide to move to the United States?
Baba Wild: I had already planned to travel but didn’t know where. In 2015, I met a producer who became a friend and advised me to go to Los Angeles, because that’s where the film industry is based!
Toombow Kids: What movies or cartoons did you love as a child?
Baba Wild: I loved Disney’s « Snow White » and « Fantasia. »
Toombow Kids: Which movie inspired you to become an actor?
Baba Wild: There are many! But if I had to choose only one, I would say « Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, » the first part of the saga. It had a big impact on me!
Toombow Kids: When you were a child, who was your favorite hero?
Baba Wild: Detective Conan! I think he was a class act and I have seen many episodes of this anime.
Toombow Kids: What are the steps to take to become an actor?
Baba Wild: 1. Take acting classes if possible. 2. Casting directors will require: headshot photographs, an acting resume, and a short demo reel of work you’ve done. 3. Submit to auditions and casting calls. In the U.S. there’s an online casting platform called Backstage. 4. Get an agent.
Toombow Kids: What advice would you give to kids who read our newspaper and want to become actors?
Baba Wild: I would tell them to dream big and not give up. To succeed, you need to dedicate yourself 100%. Don’t listen to anyone who discourages you from doing this job, because if you do it with your whole heart, I believe that’s the most beautiful thing.
