Hi everyone ! So, what story would you like me to tell you today? Do I like football? That’s not a story! Well, yes I love soccer, but with my own rules. I take the ball from the field, I fly away quietly and I throw the ball in the goal! And no it’s not cheating, I have a magic broom, it would be silly not to use it, ha ha! Oh but yes! You inspired me, thanks, now I know what to talk about! I’ll tell you why the JL Soccer club was created…
In the city of Jonathanland, everyone knows about this blind football club! I’ll explain it in case you don’t know. It’s like football except that there are five players on each team and they are blind or visually impaired. To help them find their way around, they can rely on the sound of bells inside the ball as well as on the verbal indications of a guide outside the field, which each team has at its disposal. Also to avoid injury, the field is smaller than usual and there is an inflatable foam barrier surrounding it. So that’s what it looks like! Would I make a good sports announcer?
What I can tell you is that JL Soccer was started by Nicole Hurricane on January 5, 2016. The reason she started this unique club was out of love for her two little bundles of joy, Andrew and Peter. These boys have been inseparable since the cradle! I’ve always seen them together with a ball in their hands! Their rooms are filled with posters of Megan Rapinoe, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, they are really big football fans! But what makes me so mad is that when their mother wanted to enroll them in a club, people tried to stop her! You know why? Because they are blind! “They can’t keep up with the level,” “it’s impossible to play football when you’re blind,” people said a lot of things like that! Ugh ! The twins just wanted to have fun, and people tried to discourage them. Good thing those people didn’t say that to my face, or I would have put a spell on them!
Anyway, after these mishaps, the great story is that Nicole heard on Toombow Radio about blind football, a sport she didn’t know at all! She thought it was great and wanted to create a club, but not where she was. It’s normal with the negative people there! As Nicole is very close to her uncle, she asked him for advice on which city she could create her club and he advised her to come to Jonathanland! Yes, because Nicole’s uncle is actually… Arthur Froufrou, the mayor of the town!
You know the Jonathanlandians, they are open-minded people, so of course they immediately supported her project and once the club was created, it was a big success! Everyone was invited to participate, visually impaired and sighted people alike. Nicole’s training sessions are serious, you can tell she knows what she’s doing! At the same time, she is a former youth soccer champion who played with an excellent American team, so it doesn’t surprise me! I like her, she is a go-getter and she reminds me a bit of me ha ! As for Andrew and Peter, they have become real stars! They’ve made a lot of new friends, but they like playing with little Colin Ewing the most. I know him well too, he’s the brother of the famous Baby Madison. So my curious friends, are you satisfied?
See you next time for more news from Jonathanland !
