Celebrate Mother’s Day with Nu Momish

About a week ago, you might have been making a pasta necklace, a sweet card, or a homemade cake to celebrate the most important woman in your life: your mom. At Toombow Kids, we hope your Mother’s Day was filled with love and joy!

But today, we want to share the story of mothers for whom things aren’t always easy, and of those who chose to support them, simply because they deserve it.

In Baltimore, USA, a single mom named Diamond Jaggers is raising five children on her own. Five little ones to love, feed, protect, and teach. Can you imagine the energy that takes? One particularly exhausting Friday, Diamond came across an organization called Nu Momish. Just a few hours later, a “Mom Assistant” knocked on her door. And that day, everything changed.

The program is called “Momma Needs a Hand”, and the name says it all. The idea? To offer real, concrete support to moms in need: a trustworthy person—often another mom, a nurse, or a grandmother—comes to the home to play with the kids, help cook meals, or simply give the mom a moment of peace. It’s not just practical help, it’s an act of love and solidarity.

Because yes, sometimes what moms lack most isn’t strength or courage—it’s support. A kind word. A listening ear. Unexpected help. And that’s especially true for Black mothers, who, as Gilly Shaw—the founder of Nu Momish—explains, are often overlooked, isolated, or misunderstood. She herself had a difficult childbirth where she didn’t feel heard. So she decided to create this “modern village” so that no mom would ever have to go through it alone again.

Alongside personal help, Nu Momish also provides essential items for young moms, like laundry detergent, soap, diapers… Always with the same question: “What would make your home feel a little sweeter today?”

What we love most about this story at Toombow Kids is that even superheroes need a helping hand. And that a mom’s strength isn’t in doing everything alone—it’s in knowing she has a team behind her, ready to support her at every step.

So to all the moms reading this, and to all those fighting in the shadows: you are amazing. And to all the kids out there: don’t forget to say thank you, not just on Mother’s Day, but every day of the year.
