It’s a first for the Mason Ewing Corporation, already well known for its creations in the worlds of fashion, cinema, and music production. This time, the holding company is venturing into an entirely new field: ballet. With a project called Isabella and Dorian, the serial creator Mason Ewing promises to leave a lasting impression with a work combining music, dance, and a love story that is both beautiful and heartbreaking. Toombow Kids has conducted its Christmas investigation and is sharing its findings as an early gift.
During this holiday season, when classic ballets like The Nutcracker inspire both children and adults, Mason Ewing Corporation has decided to begin its journey into the demanding and refined world of ballet. Currently in the midst of creation, Isabella and Dorian has been announced with the goal of being a groundbreaking work that blends music, dance, and a love story that is as moving as it is poetic. This project follows in the tradition of great romantic ballets while exploring universal themes such as love, resilience, and the fight against social injustices.
The story takes place in the early 19th century, between Italy and Boston, in a context where inequalities and social conventions govern destinies. Isabella, a young woman from the Italian aristocracy, is promised to a wealthy heir, an arranged marriage intended to protect family interests. But her fate changes when she crosses paths with Dorian, a blind, black shoe-shiner living in the modest neighborhoods of Boston. This forbidden love plunges them into a heartbreaking struggle against the prejudices of their time.
The ballet will be structured in four acts and will explore their passionate and tragic love story, where each gesture and note will be carefully designed to convey emotions to the audience. To ensure its success, Ewing has enlisted Niels Morlot, a rising star in dance, alongside other dancers among the best in the world. Together, they aim to create a touching and timeless performance.
According to the project’s initiator, the performances will take place in a prestigious venue, while Ewing and his fashion house Mason Ewing Couture have started working on luxurious ballet costumes that will reflect the era and social status of the characters, with meticulous attention to materials, textures, and colors. These characteristics are a hallmark of Mason Ewing, who has been known for nearly 20 years for the quality of his artistic creations, despite being blind.
Music, the backbone of the project, is receiving particular attention. An original score with classical symphonic influences is being composed. The most renowned musicians and composers have submitted their applications to secure the contract to compose the music for Isabella and Dorian. Mason Ewing himself has overseen this crucial step, stating that each note must capture the soul of this story, and that the main theme of the ballet must touch the hearts of blind individuals so they can understand this beautiful ballet simply by listening to the sound. However, the golden gates of this casting are now closed, as Ewing has chosen the renowned composer Tony Selvage, who has worked extensively on major projects in cinema, concerts, and television. He has already composed some test pieces that greatly pleased the project’s creator.
Beyond the artistic performance, Isabella and Dorian carries a strong and universal message. Through the character of Dorian, the ballet highlights themes of disability, inclusion, equality, and resilience.
Although the first steps of creation are progressing quickly, we will have to wait a little longer to see Isabella and Dorian on stage. However, observers are convinced that this ballet will enchant and move audiences, like a Christmas gift to be discovered and shared in the future!
