Every teenager has their own concerns. For some, it’s about collecting as many games as possible to play with friends; for others, it’s the quest for their true love… But for Eva, it’s human behavior! She questions the reactions of the people around her, starting with her own family and then her surroundings. She wonders why they react in certain ways and what triggers our emotions. This curiosity naturally led her to psychology.
At only 25 years old, Eva Msaky, originally from Tanzania, is already a well of knowledge in the field of psychology. Graduating with a degree in general psychology in 2021, this passionate young woman now dedicates herself to helping children and their parents better understand the emotional and mental challenges they face throughout their lives. Toombow Kids spoke with her and is sharing her valuable advice with you!
According to Eva, one of the most common problems children face today is related to the way they are raised. Many parents, who are themselves victims of unresolved trauma, unintentionally pass on their own mental health issues to their children. These traumas affect not only how parents interact with their children but also the children’s ability to express their emotions. The young psychologist highlights that many parents do not allow their children to express what they feel, creating a gap between them. Moreover, parental behavior has a direct impact on children’s self-esteem, and destructive criticism or verbal abuse can erode their self-confidence.
“Children need a space where they can express themselves freely, and parents must learn to listen and understand without judgment,” she explains.
With the rise of digital technologies, screen time has become a major concern for parents and educators. Eva notes that although technology can offer benefits, excessive use can harm children’s mental and emotional development. She recommends that parents closely monitor their children’s screen use and encourage activities that promote social interactions and creative development.
Likewise, the environment in which a child grows up, whether at home or at school, plays a crucial role in the development of their emotions and behaviors. Eva stresses the importance of creating a healthy and structured environment at home, as this is where the foundations of a child’s personality are laid.
“Parents must first understand and heal their own wounds to better help their children grow up in a balanced environment,” she advises.
One of the major challenges for parents is recognizing signs of anxiety or depression in their children. Eva explains that sudden changes in behavior, such as a loss of interest in activities they previously enjoyed or a drop in academic performance, can be indicators of emotional distress. She encourages parents to establish open dialogue with their children and to seek professional help if necessary. Moreover, her passion for the human mind is clear: play is essential in allowing children to explore their emotions, develop their creativity, and strengthen their social skills.
When the time comes for parents to address sensitive topics such as grief or divorce, Eva always advises approaching these subjects with honesty and empathy. “When making the announcement, it is crucial that parents present a unified and reassuring message to avoid creating confusion or insecurity in the child,” she says.
With a clear vision and a heart full of passion for the happiness of children, Eva Msaky weaves dreams of a bright future for families in Tanzania and beyond every day. Through her online consultations and the little seeds of wisdom she shares via her Instagram videos, she lights the way for many parents. Her work is a gentle reminder that mental health is a precious flower to be nurtured in the garden of childhood, and that attentive and loving parents can transform every moment into a promise of light and hope for tomorrow.
