It’s well known that a mother will do anything to help her child, especially when he is the victim of a terrible medical error. Little Malone was only 14 months old when he received a vaccine that changed his life. Until then, this baby who was in perfect health, will have a serious reaction and will be hospitalized for months. At the end of this dramatic accident, Malone was diagnosed with autism, severe epilepsy and post-vaccine mitochondrial encephalopathy. His mother Lucie, alias « The Original K » when she puts on her rapper’s hat, goes on a crusade for the best specialists, but nothing helps.
« In total, my son was prescribed 16 different medications. He was treated like a guinea pig because these so-called doctors didn’t even know the effects of some of the pills they gave him. In the end, it only increased the frequency of his seizures. He got up to one seizure per day. After that, despite my pleas for help, the doctors completely abandoned him. I was left to fend for myself. »
So Lucie set up her own system; she would write down everything Malone ate and observe what reactions it provoked in him to create a menu that didn’t cause him to have seizures. But in addition to the health plan, she was a leader in another battle: access to school for her son.
« There were only 9 schools for the severely handicapped in France, but they did not accept children with epilepsy. I went to court for 3 years and finally won my case, which allowed Malone to attend a school. But it didn’t do any good in the end because he was kicked out. Since they are understaffed, they find excuses to get rid of the kids. It’s shameful! In France, the situation is serious, but the government doesn’t give a damn about social issues despite all our calls for help. I have actually denounced this in a 2018 rap song, that I addressed to the President of France, which is called #inclusionfermeta.»
The job of family caregiver allows Lucie to devote her time to accompany her son in his daily life. Alongside her rap music, she passes on messages and she has one today for parents whose children have become disabled as a result of a medical error.
« You must file a complaint and defend yourself, it is intolerable to destroy people’s lives. We have to make sure that the rotten people who did this are punished! »
The road to inclusion for children with disabilities is still long. It’s up to us to fight for them!
