We are heading to Quebec to meet a young teenage girl named Alice.
When Alice was born, she had no health problems at all. Until almost the age of 11, she lived a normal life. She had everything to be happy: amazing friends, a boyfriend her age named Teddy, loving parents, and a 9-year-old little sister she loved very much.
Then one day, everything changed.
Alice learned that she had osteosarcoma, a rare cancer that attacks the bones.
Because of this illness, she was forced to spend more and more time in the hospital. Little by little, her world turned into a nightmare. She lost her friends, Teddy was no longer there.
The only people who came to visit her were her parents, her little sister, and her grandparents.
Alice has now been fighting for almost four years. She suffers from frequent nightmares and terrible pain, especially at night. Every day, she has to take medication, receive injections, and undergo chemotherapy treatments. Lying in her hospital bed, Alice keeps fighting day after day, because she wants to live.
At only 14 years old, Alice dreams of getting her life back. She wants to defeat her worst enemy: the disease that is trying to destroy her. Alice made a promise to her little sister: when she gets better, they will do the simplest things together, like going shopping just the two of them.
Every single day, Alice takes medication. Injections and treatments are now part of her daily life. Yet, she never complains. Instead, she wants to bring hope to all the young patients who are fighting just like her.
Toombow Kids wanted to share Alice’s story, a young teenager who teaches us a powerful lesson about courage and life. We are sending her all our strength and wish her to never give up, because life is worth living.
